Current CDCP Update
If you had CDCP coverage for 2025–2026 but did not renew by June 1, 2026, the Government of Canada advises that you must reapply. A gap in coverage may apply.
Family Care Dental Clinic does not determine CDCP eligibility or process government applications. Applications, renewals and eligibility decisions are handled by the Government of Canada.
Looking for a North Vancouver Dentist Who Accepts CDCP?
Understanding a new dental plan can sometimes feel complicated. You may be wondering whether your coverage is active, which services are included or how much you may have to pay yourself.
At Family Care Dental Clinic, we take the time to explain the dental-care process in clear, straightforward language. Before treatment proceeds, our team can help you understand:
Whether your CDCP coverage appears to be active
Which recommended dental services may be eligible
Whether preauthorization may be required
Your CDCP co-payment level
Any estimated costs that may not be covered by the plan
Our objective is to help you make informed decisions about your care without pressure or unexpected confusion.
Already Enrolled? Here Is How to Arrange Your First Visit
A. Confirm That Your Coverage Is Active
After your application is approved, the Government of Canada will send you confirmation containing:
Your CDCP plan or member number
Your benefit coverage start date
Your co-payment level
Please confirm that your coverage is active before receiving dental treatment. Only eligible care received on or after your benefit start date can be considered for coverage.
B. Contact Family Care Dental Clinic
Call us or submit the online appointment-request form. Please mention that you are a new CDCP patient.
Telephone: (604) 987-3545

C. Have Your CDCP Information Ready
When contacting the clinic, please have the following available:
Your CDCP member ID or plan number
Your benefit coverage start date
Your co-payment level
A piece of identification
Your current contact information
You do not necessarily need to wait for the physical Sun Life welcome package if you already have the required enrolment information and your coverage is active.
D. Review Your Recommended Care and Costs
Your dentist will assess your oral health and recommend appropriate care. Our administrative team can then help explain which recommended services may be covered, whether preauthorization is required and what estimated amount you may need to pay.
You remain in control of which recommended services you choose to receive.
All About the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan, commonly called the CDCP, is a federal program that helps make oral healthcare more affordable for eligible Canadian residents.
The plan may pay a portion of the cost of eligible dental services. However, it does not necessarily cover the full cost of every appointment or treatment. The amount covered depends on the service, CDCP rules and fees, and the member’s applicable co-payment level.
Who May Qualify for the CDCP?
To qualify, an applicant must meet all four eligibility requirements established by the Government of Canada:
You do not have access to private dental insurance or coverage
You and your spouse or common-law partner, when applicable, have filed the required Canadian tax returns
Your adjusted family net income is below $90,000
You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes
Access to private coverage may include dental insurance through an employer, pension plan, family member, professional organization, student organization or privately purchased plan. A health spending account that covers dental expenses may also count as access to private coverage.
Having dental coverage through certain provincial, territorial or federal social programs does not automatically prevent someone from qualifying. The programs may coordinate eligible coverage.
Only the Government of Canada can confirm whether you qualify.
What Dental Services May Be Covered?
Depending on your individual needs, plan limitations and the recommendation of your dental provider, eligible services may include:
A. Examinations and Preventive Care
Complete, routine, specific and emergency dental examinations
Dental X-rays
Professional cleaning and scaling
Fluoride treatments
Dental sealants
B. Basic and Restorative Care
Permanent and temporary fillings
Treatment for cavities
Certain pain-control procedures
Root canal treatment
Certain gum and periodontal treatments
C. Other Eligible Services
Certain crowns and related restorative procedures
Complete or partial dentures
Denture repairs, relines and rebases
Tooth and root extractions
Certain oral-surgery procedures
Certain sedation and anesthesia services
Some treatments have frequency limits or require CDCP preauthorization before treatment begins. Not every preauthorization request is guaranteed to be approved. Orthodontic services are not currently available through the CDCP, although the Government of Canada indicates that a defined range may be introduced later.
Your dentist will recommend care according to your oral health—not simply according to what the plan may cover.
How much will the CDCP cover?
The CDCP uses your adjusted family net income to determine your co-payment level.
| Adjusted Family Net Income | % Covered by the CDCP | % Covered by Patient |
|---|---|---|
|
Below $70,000
|
100 | 0 |
| $70,000 – $79,999 | 60 | 40 |
| $80,000 – $89,999 | 40 | 60 |
| Adjusted Family Net Income | Below $70,000 |
|---|---|
| % Covered by the CDCP | 100 |
| % Covered by Patient | 0 |
| Net Family Income | $70,000 – $79,999 |
| % Covered by the CDCP | 60 |
| % Covered by Patient | 040 |
| Net Family Income | $80,000 – $89,999 |
| % Covered by the CDCP | 40 |
| % Covered by Patient | 60 |
These percentages apply to the fees established by the CDCP for eligible services. They do not necessarily represent the full amount charged by a dental clinic.
Could I Still Have an Out-of-Pocket Cost?
Yes. You may need to pay an amount directly to the clinic when:
Your adjusted family net income requires a co-payment
The clinic’s fee is higher than the amount reimbursed under the CDCP fee schedule
A service is not covered by the CDCP
A service exceeds the plan’s frequency limits
Required preauthorization is not approved
Even a member with a 0% co-payment may have an additional cost if the clinic’s fee is higher than the CDCP-established fee or if a service is not covered.
Before beginning treatment, our team will explain the recommended services and review the estimated patient portion with you as clearly as possible.
