If you've been putting off dental care due to cost, you're not alone—and there may now be a solution available to you. And we're here to help you get started.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is designed to make dental care more accessible and affordable for eligible Canadians. At Family Care Dental Clinic, we’re here to help you understand your options and guide you every step of the way.

① What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program that helps cover the cost of essential dental services for Canadians who do not have private dental insurance.

Depending on your eligibility, the plan may help reduce the cost of:

  • Routine dental exams and checkups

  • Professional cleanings

  • Dental X-rays

  • Fillings and other basic treatments

Because each person’s situation is different, coverage levels and co-payments can vary—but many patients find that their out-of-pocket costs are significantly reduced.

② You May Already Qualify, Even If You Haven’t Applied Yet

Many people in North Vancouver are eligible for the CDCP but haven’t applied, or aren’t sure if they still qualify.

You may benefit from the program if you:

  • Do not currently have private dental insurance

  • Have delayed dental visits due to cost concerns

  • Need help understanding how to apply or renew the CDCP

③ A Few More Points Before Applying

Here are a few more points to note before applying for the CDCP, mandated by the Canadian Government. The individuals must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

  • Have filed an income tax return for the previous year.

  • Lack dental insurance through a private or pension plan or employer.

  • Have a net family income of less than $90,000 annually.

④ How much will the CDCP cover?

The CDCP covers between 40% and 100% of eligible oral health service fees in BC, based on adjusted family net income. It is not free for everyone; residents may have a co-payment (out-of-pocket cost) if their family income is over $70,000. Coverage is based on CDCP-established fees, which may differ from a dentist’s actual fees.

Net Family Income % Covered by the CDCP % Covered by Patient
Below $70,000
100 0
$70,000 – $79,999 60 40
$80,000 – $89,999 40 60
